Labor

Happy Labor Day. Labor is very important. I really appreciate the day off, as well. We have a lot of crap to bring to the house. I’m excited to get it looking like a real home. This whole saga has been distracting from the writing, though that seems to be back on track now. Dean Wesley Smith says there’s always a point in a project where a writer should expect to get bogged down, usually at around the one-third mark. I hope that the threshold I just crossed with my current project isn’t the one-third mark, but either way it should now be a fun ride to get to the end.

Labor. What do I have to say about it? Well, I have a very fulfilling and meaningful day job, but… sitting around and writing books all day would probably be even more fun. And it’s nuts that we generally have to work for health insurance in this country. There’s no guarantee that the health insurance offered by your company will be any good. (Mine is not.)

One of the reasons I wanted to create a blog is because a lot of the voices in the indie publishing sphere have repulsive things to say about our society and the way it handles wealth, health, etc. Shout-out to the dude who went out of his way in an entire post to enthusiastically slurp on a trillionaire who will never acknowledge his existence.

I’ve wondered if my stories give away anything about me politically since I don’t write explicitly political stories. Or do I? I suppose it’s not really my business. I do like the occasional political story, though. I read John Steinbeck’s In Dubious Battle this summer and really enjoyed it.

I’m wishing everyone a safe and relaxing Labor Day.
