Ruck

I learned about rucking a couple years ago after I read Arnold Schwarzenegger’s book Be Useful and discovered his workout app. I am a big Arnold fan even though he did that one thing that one time. Rucking is when you exercise by carrying around weight in a pack. I bought a backpack specifically for this activity since my regular one seemed like it could not endure, which was making me nervous.

As I mentioned yesterday, the treadmills in my apartment building’s gym have a flat console with a nearly vertical screen. This means that when I ruck, I can bring my laptop, prop it up, and work on things like writing stories or getting them published! Yay! What an orgasm for those who believe that efficiency is the highest form of beauty.

I’m sure that it won’t be long before some studies come out that implicate rucking in arthritis, osteoporosis, and erectile dysfunction. My wife will probably see such news in the elevator on her way to the office. But until then, I have a lot of fun with this. One guy on Reddit that you can find if you google about this activity said that as a member of the Army, rucking is the bane of his existence and he doesn’t understand why anyone would do it for fun. Haha. I’m definitely the last person I would identify as a glutton for punishment, so that’s an odd thing to read.

I like to ruck once a week, particularly on Sundays when my wife goes on a long run, but I have to tell you that sometimes I get anxious about not writing enough so I will also ruck instead of my usually scheduled workout. An hour feels pretty good, although often I end up going a little longer because I lose track of time.
